A total of 1,300 tablets were being recalled after being found to contain sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra.
The drug’s manufacturer, Pfizer, says it has been unable to prove its safety and effectiveness.
“In the past, consumers had been warned of potential adverse effects from sildenafil and should not take this medication,” FDA’s said in a statement.
“As a result, we are reviewing the safety and efficacy of this medication and will take a full review within the next few days.”
A Pfizer spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Viagra is available in the U. S. at a cost of $1.33 per 100 milligram tablet, compared to $1.67 per 100 milligram tablet for tadalafil, Pfizer said.
